A valued customer needed an EU Stage V emissions-compliant industrial diesel electric power unit for a crusher application. The EU Stage V emissions requirements apply to non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) and present significant technical challenges as the engines usually require pre-treatment (selective catalytic reduction) in addition to post combustion regeneration. Certain tracked quarrying equipment invokes these emissions regulations, where a fixed version of the same machine would not.
This power unit, complete with totally bespoke chassis and enclosure, was the first sub-100kVA Stage V Emission-compliant industrial diesel electric power unit of its type manufactured in the UK. Rigorous testing was carried out and the completed machine was subject to detailed technical audit and load testing by both iPower and the industrial engine manufacturer. This was a significant technical achievement for iPower, our customer and Caterpillar’s C3.6 series engine.
